Basic Tools:
Adopt a Strong Posture

A bully likes to pound others into submission. If a bully insists on getting his own way, hold your ground!

Just say no
- Keep repeating your rejection without any variation:
I'm sorry, but I can't go along with that.
I'm sorry, but I just don't have the time.
I'm sorry, I can't help you with that.
- If he keeps insisting:
I know you aren't happy about this, but that's the way it has to be
    It's not negotiable.
    We obviously see things differently.
Why don't we just agree that we disagree?
I'm sorry you feel that way, but I've made my decision.
Which part of "no" don't you understand?
- If he argues by asking you "Why?", respond by saying "Because" and repeat your rejection:
    (Bully:)"Why won't you do that?"
(You:)Because I'm not going to do that.
- Practice these techniques on telephone solicitors or with pushy salespeople
Give a strong speech
1. Acknowledge your past mistakes

2. Describe your good intentions

3. State your position on the issue at hand

4. Make a simple, straightforward request of the bully

5. Ask the bully to take some time to consider it
Suggest ending the relationship
I'm tired of being bullied by you. Do you have any suggestions?
My only answer is to end our relationship. I don't know what else to do.
End the relationship
I don't want to change to accommodate your need to control me. So let's just end our relationship.
You're so demanding and controlling! I can't stand being around you. I've decided to end our relationship.
