Your Awareness of a Bully:
Be Skeptical, Not Naïve

When a potential bully turns on the charm, don't be fooled. Personal charisma often hides a ruthless manipulator. You can't afford to be naïve if you're going to preserve your dignity and stand up for your rights.

Never take anything a bully says or does at face value. Ask yourself:

What is reality behind what he is saying or doing? Why is he saying or doing it? What is his true attitude and desire?

Never give a bully the benefit of the doubt

- Be outwardly calm and inwardly alert - Acknowledge the ugly reality of his character and intentions - Recognize his tendency to charm people while he undermines them - Watch for subtle attacks in his words and mannerisms

Don't be naïve

- Resolve to never trust people until you know their true intentions - Remember that a bully is skilled at concealing his ruthless ambition - Remember that most people are fooled by a bully's charm - Assume a bully is aggressive, manipulative and highly ambitious - Assume a bully will ruthlessly try to control you or undermine you
