Stages of Fighting with a Bully
(Part 1)

A bully wants you to be unaware that you are being controlled, manipulated or destroyed. A bully also wants you to be unaware of the extent to which he is attacking you.

But to develop an effective strategy for fighting back, you must understand where you stand in your relationship to a bully. Also, as a fight with a bully develops, you will need to recognize the intensity and meaning of each battle.

Degrees of Fighting with a Bully
Stage 1 - Go on alert: there may be a bully in your midst - You begin to observe the behavior of the potential bully.

- You ask questions of the potential bully to understand him better.
Stage 2 - Start full diagnosis: You've confirmed a bully is present - The threat level from the bully is low or unknown.

- The bully may be new to the company or new to his position.

- You discuss the behavior of the potential bully with others.

- You begin keeping a journal to catalog the bully's words and behaviors.

- You study and evaluate the bully's patterns of behavior
Stage 3 - Prepare for battle: You've confirmed a bully is likely to attack you - You observe typical personality traits of a bully.

- You begin to understand the intentions and strategies of the bully.

- You have not yet come under attack, but you see others being attacked.

- You have identified a significant threat level from the bully.

- You begin planning for your fight with the bully.
Stage 4 - Begin fighting: You are under attack from a bully - A bully has begun trying to manipulate and control you.

- You evaluate your options for dealing with the bully.

- You commit to fight the bully to the finish.

- You finish your plans for a major fight with the bully.

- You are prepared to fully engage the highly threatening bully.

- You begin fighting the bully.
