Visible Trait #5:
A Bully is Strong-Willed

A bully is very strong-willed. He is never satisfied
and constantly pressures you to fulfill his desires.

A bully is pushy to an extreme
- He always wants more from you, no matter how much you give him

- He demands extreme actions and commitments from you

- He is constantly pushing his proposals

- On major issues, he shoves his objectives down the throats of others

- He is very ruthless in obtaining his objectives

- He will stop at nothing to get what he wants
A bully is increasingly demanding over time
- He assumes you will ultimately cave to his wishes, so he keeps pushing

- His attempts to compromise seem very one-sided (in his benefit)

- Once you cave in to him, he begins making greater demands

- Over time, he demands more and more from you
A bully is narrow-minded
- He insists his way is the only possible or reasonable action

- He ridicules alternatives

- He is closed to the ideas and suggestions others

- He can't comprehend that others have valid viewpoints

- He is never open to creative discussion

- He attacks creativity with angry, distorted or belittling comments
A bully prevents adequate
discussion of opposing views
- He doesn't allow you to explain an opposing argument

- He refuses to discuss any alternatives to his plan

- He tries to end a meeting before others have spoken fully

- If he can't end a meeting, he leaves it

- If he can't leave it, he withdraws from the discussion
A bully attacks you if you suggest
a problem with his proposal
- He implies you have selfish motives

- He suggests you are having a lapse in judgment

- He becomes extremely frustrated and disappointed with you
A bully tries to win every point
- He diffuses your major points by attacking your minor points

- He distracts others by making a mountain out of molehill

- He views every point as critical to maintaining his own power

- He isn't satisfied with just winning a point; he wants to embarrass you as well

- He maintains power and control by a take-no-prisoners attitude
A bully pressures you by creating urgent deadlines
- He holds you to unreasonably short deadline imposed by others

- He is unwilling to request extensions

- He pressures you to make quick decisions

- He forces decisions before giving you all the facts

- He attacks you for delaying a decision

- He suggests you have the "paralysis of analysis"
A bully uses others to control you
- He has his superiors counsel you

- He has his subordinates pressure you

- He suggests that others will disapprove or become angry

- He manipulates others into publicly criticizing you
